Great news for Patriots fans. Cam must not have wanted the back-up job.
Love the choice at starter but worry about the QB depth position now.

The problem was signing him in the first place
Arm has been shot for a few years
Most inaccurate QB in the league last year, and folks around here (talk radio) still think he can play.

He would have been a solid back-up, but Jones is 10 times better.

10x? That's a lot.

Look, I'm no fan of Cam Newton. Never have been. But let's pump the brakes on Jones just a tad. He's played against 3rd and 4th string vanilla defenses this preseason. He's looked good. But many guys have in the preseason against scrubs, then fall flat on their face when the real thing hits them hard in the face.

I'll reserve judgment until he's started a few regular season games. Give me half a season as the starter then we can start to fairly evaluate.

lol....i'm obviously exaggerating. I'm excited to see what the kid can do, and no I don't expect another TB12.

But anyone with two eye balls can see he's much better. The Vax I'm sure has something to do with it also, but between the two QB's its a no brainer.

If I'm a Pats fan, I would be too. You know what you are getting with Cam. And there's a ceiling there at this point in his career. I'd much rather throw the young kid out there and see what he can do.

He hasn't faced real live bullets yet though. Shit's about to get real for Mac.

I think Mack will be fine.

He's got a quick release, sees the field well, steps up in the pocket (ala Tom Brady), and just seems to have a good football head. 52 attempts. 0 interceptions. And he can throw the deep ball accurately.

He's also gonna have a solid running game to help keep the headhunters away from him. And he's got Billy B coaching him.

Win Win Win

I'll be surprised if he doesn't have a real strong (for a rookie) rookie year.

Once Cam lost his elite speed and running ability, he was a below average at best QB, much below average, mostly, not an accurate pocket passer, nope.

Mac Jones will be a plus QB in the NFL, maybe even top notch, he might have some problems his first yr or two, but a pocket passer is still the best model, hit short-medium-long passes, hand the ball off, stay healthy, and he has what it takes.

Sure running QBs offer a lot, at first, but inevitably get dinged and then if they are not a good pocket passer, they are not productive (Vick-Wentz-RGIII-Trubisky-well you know em all). Watson stopped running as much and became a good pocket QB. Mahomes still runs too much was dinged for the SB, lost the game, I would think he will be a good pocket passer if he goes that way.

Write it down: 2031, Jones will still be starting in the NFL, a few of the run too often big name rookies this year... we shall see if they are around.

As mentioned already, I don't think Cam wanted to be a backup. I thought Belichick liked his leadership and his presence in the locker room. So I'm surprised he was cut

Last year he came off of two injury plagued seasons with no preseason and a depleted Patriots roster. I think he was going to be a lot better this year

Having said that, I worship the ground Belichick walks on and I'm excited to see our next star QB in the making

Buccaneers and TB12 at New England in week 4. Should still be a great game irregardless of who starts at qb.

Line will probably be TB-4.5?
